Melatonin is a natural hormone that regulates the human biological clock. It is mostly produced in the pineal gland. The gastrointestinal tract is a major source of extrapineal melatonin. It is a potent antioxidant that effectively quenches hydroxyl radicals.
Several clinical studies support its benefit in promoting healthy sleep function and relieving symptoms of jet lag. Recent findings also suggest that melatonin has beneficial effects in supporting healthy bowel function independent of its effects on sleep.
Melatonin is readily absorbed, non-addictive and very well tolerated.
